The room is otherwise completely air-tight. the air then exits through an "exhaust" port in the room. the air gets sucked through the filter and then blown into the music room creating a positive pressure inside the room. the front of the inlet box is fitted with a high quality HEPA filter. In a new basement room I just built, I have an external ventilation fan sitting between the new room and an air inlet box on an upper floor of the building (where there is generally a lot of air exchange). and if it doesn't seem good, fix the situation. Pay attention to where air enters and exits the room. I've seen situations where poorly designed ventilation systems actually pulled insulation dust into rooms from above drop ceilings and stuff like that, air passing right over the insulation and into the living space. How's the ventilation in the room? Windows? Etc? Some folks occasionally wonder why they have so much dust in their rooms, failing to realize that an open door or window can allow all sorts of dust, pollen and lord knows what INTO the room, that's where most of the dust you'll see comes from unless the room is truly sealed. I am not saying you should go out and fill a garbage bag with a known dangerous material and consider it safe though. at least with materials that are in the "controversial" category. This should cut way down on or totally eliminate any potential hazards from particles / gases. and should contain some degree of gases as well. my comment is, when in DOUBT, just wrap whatever you're using in plastic sheeting or good garbage bags.

There has been endless debate here (and elsewhere) for years about whether or not certain types of insulation pose health risks. I really do not believe that any particles large enough to cause visible "dust" on surfaces and/or cause someone to sneeze etc can pass through any tight plastic sheeting ("tight", meaning no holes, sealed well, etc).

How often do you dust and vacuum your room? If the answer is "never", I'm not surprised you have dust everywhere. I really don't think it's possible for "dust" particles to pass through plastic, assuming it's all sealed properly, no holes, etc.ĭid you work with the insulation at all INSIDE this room prior to getting it in the plastic? It's possible that you created a bunch of dust prior to getting the stuff INSIDE the plastic, and that dust settled on various surfaces, and has now been redistributed around, created a haze of dust everywhere. The dust came through the plastic? I thought the plastic would keep it in, are you sure? Would that mean the coton fibres are able to penetrate a plastic barrier? I have a hard time seeing how it could penetrate this barrier.how small could they be? Are you sure that the fibers weren't in the air before you covered them in plastic? Wow, perhaps the pastic is very porous?.I second this.
